Here is an example of an “extra credit” project Jim Kelly used to supplement his CS job interview

This was done after the first interview

Editor’s tip if you’d like to try this out: It’s less about the content of the project itself and more about the thought process behind it.

Email 1 from Jim to Company

Hi NAME

After asking NAME if there were any platforms or tools that the CS team uses at YOUR COMPANY that I could familiarize myself with, she mentioned that the CS team uses SOFTWARE TOOL for project management and that I could create a free SOFTWARE TOOL account to familiarize myself with the platform.

I have attached a .pdf with screenshots from 3 SOFTWARE TOOL projects I created to toy around with the platform (it felt easy to learn because of its similarity to a project management tool I have more experience with, Trello).

I created these projects to both develop my capacity using SOFTWARE TOOL and to imagine the step-by-step details of some of the processes and projects that I would complete as a ROLE AT YOU COMPANY.

I had fun doing this and hope it gives you a sense both of my current grasp of a few of the roles and responsibilities I would take on as a ROLE AT YOUR COMPANY and of my interest in ensuring that I am up to speed with all platforms and tools the next ROLE AT YOUR COMPANY will use to ensure the success of their clients.

I look forward to speaking with NAME next DATE, TIME, TIME ZONE in round 2 of the interviews. Have a great week.

Best,

SENDER
