  • What the heck is Slack?

    • Slack is a popular ($27.7 billion with a B popular) communication platform used by many tech companies for their workers to communicate
    • If you get hired by a tech company you will almost certainly be exposed to Slack
  • Why is Emma Brady always telling me to join the Slack?

    • It’s good for all of us
      • You will almost certainly be exposed to Slack (or something very similar) in a non-traditional, particularly tech, role
      • Slack we can be much more organized with our thoughts and maximize our limited resources
    • We have simply outgrown the Linkedin Group
      • It is NOT a good place to manage a group for many reasons
        • Linkedin is very challenging to moderate. We get very repetitive questions every week because the posts quickly get buried in Linkedin
        • There is no search feature. We have great content that our members are missing because of the way Linkedin’s algorithm and group set up is
        • You cannot organize like-minded people into focus groups on Linkedin like we can do in Slack
    • It gives us a place to serve people who have already transitioned vs. Linkedin which tends to mainly serve those who have not yet transitioned
  • If Slack is so great why did you also make this Notion page?

    • Slack didn’t make $27 billion dollars by being free!
      • Since we use the free version, our content gets deleted after 90 days. This page is a permanent place to store the awesome conversations and resources from both Slack and Linkedin
  • How do I use Slack?

    • Here is how to make a Slack account
    • Please review this help center article for how to use Slack
    • Please do not message the TCT moderators for training on how to use Slack
  • What is the first thing I should know when I join Slack?

    1. You will be automatically placed into a few channels (keep reading to learn how to join more channels):
      • #01 start-here
      • #02 annoucement
      • #12-jobs
    2. Please be mindful of the Code of Conduct and Channel explanation, both can be found in the #01 start-here channel, which you are automatically added to when you join Slack
  • Code of Conduct

    • Be Respectful
      • The TCT is run on a volunteer basis.
      • Please be respectful of our limited manpower
      • Lean on each other and the group as much as possible prior to soliciting 1:1 assistance from group members
      • Communicate Effectively
      • Keep it positive and professional - don’t use the word burnout
      • NO self-promotion
      • Share your successes and have fun!

By using this Slack channel, you accept these terms. Bad actors will be banned from the Slack and all events at our sole discretion. This is your only warning

    • Channel Explanation :Just so you are aware, there are plenty more channels (about 40!!) for discussion!

If you hover over the “Channels” header in the sidebar, a “+” button will appear. Click that, and you’ll see more places to engage

We suggest you sort your list by channels by numerical order in your slack settings

      • Here’s how we’re thinking about those discussions:
      • The 00's are for the Admins to communicate to you
      • The 10's are for you all to network with each other
      • The 20's are for role-specific inquiries (Sales, Customer Success, Product, UX/UI, Engineering, Utilization Review, etc. We can add more as needed!)
      • The 30's are for those who have already transitioned to a non-traditional role. Those channel(s) will be locked and you can request to join

More channels will be added as we grow to address the needs of our members! If you have an idea/need for a channel that does not already exist, please let @Emma Brady know and she can make one for you

      Some notes:

      • 01-Announcements channel is for Emily & Emma to post major news. This channel will be heavily moderated. if you have an event to share, please post it to the “13-events” channel
      • Every channel has a Descriptions, which explains what the channel is for in the Channels List. They also have a Topic, which is under the channel name in the posts list, and has instructions for the channel. Some of those instructions are important, like how to engage in the “12-jobs” channel
      • You can mute channels that you don’t want to get notifications for. Or don’t join them in the first place!
      • No self promotion. Please keep any discussion about those types of things to the “14-self-promotion-mondays” channel on Mondays only
      • Remember to create threads and reply to things as much as possible, so we keep the signal-to-noise ratio here very high
